It is a fact that many of the urgent needs that we have to face at WELCOMMON is not possible to be covered by the public services or the existing resources, while these mainly involve only the accommodation. For this reason, in most cases we have to resolve upcoming issues through the help of volunteers or micro-donations. Often the costs and needs we have to face, are related to
- medical supplies
- special medication
- hearing aids
- glasses for children
- wheelchairs
Giving that the access to public health insurance and social services for the refugees are limited, refugees are unable to follow the medication, let alone when it is special and expensive (i.e cancer medication/diabetes treatment/ wheelchairs).
In many cases, the residents that we host are not able to take care of themselves on their own and there is a need for cares to help them in everyday needs. In these cases we have to make open calls or to refer to individual friends and citizens asking for donations.
